9th Highland Games Sychrov 2009
For the nineth year, on the 29th of August 2009 from 10am till late the State Castle of Sychrov will be governed by the Scots as the renowned Sychrov Highland Games get underway, complete with obligatory tartans, kilts, bagpipes and whisky - the cultural heritage of Scotland.

Amongst other attractions the visitor can look forward to:

  • children’s events organised throughout the day;
  • the third annual international the Silver Reed Scottish Bagpipe Competition;
  • traditional scots field sports, where visitors can participate and compare their strength with professional sportsmen from Scotland – with the chance of winning one the excellent prizes available
  • Scottish country dancing displays and classes with the Caledonian Club and Silmarion;
  • traditional and modern Scottish and Irish music by Czech and overseas artistes;
  • children’s theatre performances;
  • historical camps recreating the past with regular displays and seminars;
  • fencing contests and demonstrations;
  • falconry displays with impressive trained birds of prey;
  • vintage British cars exhibition;
  • a range of stalls offering traditional and modern Scottish silverware, kilt fitting and ordering, music and a wide selection of souvenirs.

Stay for the exciting evening program and listen to the captivating sounds of Scottish folk music brought to you by Czech and international artistes, and try out your new dancing skills honed during the afternoon sessions. Scottish bagpipes will be very much in evidence, both Czech and overseas bands, including the 1st Czech Pipes and Drums (the traditional "Scottish" pipe band from the Czech Republic), the Czestochowa Pipes and Drums (the traditional "Scottish" pipe band from Poland) and others.

On the experience of previous years adequate parking around the castle will be made available, and for those wishing to arrive early and leave later, a campsite will be provided from Friday 28th August to Sunday 30th August free of charge not far from the Castle grounds.
